About

Our academic partnership, established in 2007, explores the intersections of semiotics, information science, and digital communication. Early in our collaboration, we examined how catalog records shape meaning, knowledge, and interpretation within information environments. Today, our work extends this focus into the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, with particular attention to Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory of signs and its relevance to contemporary digital systems.

We are currently developing a co-authored book on digital semiotics, focusing on how meaning is constructed, interpreted, and transformed within computational environments. The project brings together several strands of our work, including the development of a Digital Semiotics Framework, theoretical contributions to AI, and a sustained cross-institutional research exchange. This collaboration reflects ongoing joint initiatives between the University of South Florida’s School of Information and the University of Copenhagen’s Institut for Kommunikation (KOMM), and forms part of the broader digitalsemiotics.org research network.
